What is Usability Testing?

In theory, the web as a whole is empowering for users, as it gives them the option to click over to the competition at the slightest whim.

Whether at a web store or a real store, when users don't get what they want, they leave. On the web, this happens more often. In many instances, this can be because they are unable to find the product they were looking for.

This is often because websites don't provide a user experience that feels like shopping-instead it feels like searching, which isn't the users' goal. Users want to shop or find information in a way that seems natural to them, not search or struggle using "web tools and features".

Helping users find control!

One of the oldest guidelines for usable interaction design is to increase the user's sense of control and freedom.

Web sites that provide better user experiences empower their consumers to reap the benefits of the Web, but don't let them lose the power and flexibility they'd have in a physical store. In other words, if your customers have the options they want, they will have power.
