How to Make a Website SE Friendly

Before you submit your website to the major search engines, make sure that the website is fully optimised.

Title Tag

The title tag is one of the most important factors in achieving search engine rankings. Make sure that the Title Tag on each pages reflects the content of the webpage and is ideally no more that 70 characters

Search engines use the title tag to collect information on what a website is about and will be displayed in the search engine results pages, if a website is ranked in a search engine results page.

Description Meta Tag

The Description Meta Tag most often appears under the title of the page in search engine results. Like the title tag, the description meta tag is hidden from public view and should explain what the user will find when the visitor clicks on the link.

The Description Meta Tag should also be different on each page and contain no more than 250 characters.

The Keyword Tag

Over the last number of years the keyword tag has become less and less important and become almost obsolete in its usage. Our tip? Use the content of your title tag for the keyword tag!

Image ALT tags

As well as being an important area in ensuring a website is accessible- ALT tags can be used to help with the placement of a website, as search engines cannot index the content of an image.

And Don't Forget!!

General Size of Web Pages
This is not only a rule for promotional pages but for any web pages- try to keep all pages below 50K.

Navigation
Make sure that every page is linked intrinsically to the whole website and that the navigation is intuitive for both users and search engine robots.

Site Map
Always include a site map to help search engines and users access all of the website- like our site map.
